 Jay
Amer is a Certified Economic Development professional (Ec.D)
who established Amer & Associates Inc. in January 2010.
Previously he was responsible for delivery of a wide variety
of economic development services including investment
attraction, business development, marketing and communications
for the regional economic development corporation in
Peterborough, Ontario. He works closely with a broad network
of regional, provincial, state and federal economic
development, government and business partners to ensure Amer
& Associates' clients achieve success in meeting their
goals.
Amer & Associates diverse
portfolio of work includes development of strategic plans,
economic research and analysis, investment attraction, lead
generation, trade promotion, communications, organizational
development, government relations and funding. Jay contributed
to a major provincial government initiative on developing
performance measurement tools for economic development
strategic plans. He has contributed to initiatives in a
variety of sectors including, but not limited to, agriculture
and agri-foods, advanced manufacturing, workforce development,
tourism, aerospace and aviation, green technologies and
cleantech.
Jay is an active member of
several economic development and business organizations
including the Ontario East Economic Development Commission,
American Chamber of Commerce in Canada (AmCham), Economic
Developers Association of Canada (EDAC), Economic Development
Council of Ontario (EDCO) and the International Economic
Development Council (IEDC) where he is a member of the
International Advisory Committee.
Prior to joining the economic
development profession Jay had a successful career in public
affairs and communications with Ontario Power Generation (OPG).
He is a Past-President of the Economic Developers Association
of Canada (EDAC), and contributed as a member of EDAC's
University of Waterloo Economic Development Program
professional development course committee.
Volunteer involvement in his
hometown of Peterborough includes service as President of the
Peterborough Collegiate Foundation, Co-Chair of the Fleming
College Kawartha Trades & Technology Centre Fundraising
Campaign, United Way of Peterborough Board of Directors,
President of the Board of Directors of Camp Kawartha & the
Kawartha Outdoor Education Centre and an independent Director
of Peterborough Distribution Inc. Jay was also Director with
the Rotary Club of Peterborough and is Chair of the Program
Committee.
Jay is a recipient of the
Ontario East Economic Developer of the Year award presented
for his contribution to his community and the economic
development profession.
