JAY'S BIO


Jay Amer is a Certified Economic Development professional who established Amer & Associates Economic Development in January 2010. Previously he was responsible for delivery of a wide variety of economic development services including investment attraction, business development, marketing and communications for the regional economic development corporation in Peterborough, Ontario. He works closely with a broad network of regional, provincial and federal economic development, government and business partners to ensure Amer & Associates' clients achieve success.

Amer & Associates portfolio of work includes development of municipal economic development strategic plans, economic research and analysis for investment attraction, lead generation and assistance with communications, government relations and funding programs. Jay recently contributed to a major provincial government initiative on developing performance measurement tools for economic development strategic plans.

Jay is an active member of the Ontario East Economic Development Commission Marketing Committee and has chaired their Advanced Manufacturing Investment Program, bringing diverse rural and urban communities together in a collaborative marketing effort to support investment attraction initiatives in sectors that include tourism, aerospace, nuclear and green technologies.

Prior to joining the economic development profession Jay had a successful career in public affairs and communications with Ontario's provincial electrical energy utility. He was a founding member of the DNA Cluster (now the Innovation Cluster) steering committee - a partnership between Trent University, Fleming College and the private sector tasked with supporting growth of a knowledge based economy in the Peterborough region. He is currently the President of the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC), Canada's national professional economic developers association with a network of over 1000 professional economic developers from coast (Pacific) to coast (Atlantic) to coast (Arctic). Jay is a member of EDAC's University of Waterloo Economic Development Program professional development course committee.

Volunteer involvement in his hometown of Peterborough includes service as President of the Peterborough Collegiate Foundation and Vice-President on the Board of Directors of Camp Kawartha & the Kawartha Outdoor Education Centre. Jay is also a past Director with the Rotary Club of Peterborough and is Chair of the Public Relations Committee.

Jay is a past recipient of Bell Canada Ontario East Economic Developer of the Year award presented for his contribution to his community and the economic development profession.
